Real estate and housing
The real estate price index as published quarterly by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) for Saudi Arabia and its 13 administrative regions, and by type (residential, commercial, agricultural) for the country; dwellings in 2025 by type and household size; construction costs; and historical building permits by region. Data for Q2 2026 (Shawwal 1447 – Muharram 1448 AH) · published 19 July 2026 (5 Safar 1448 AH).
An indicator of price change by region, not a property valuation. It does not say what any particular property is worth, and is not for pricing a property or for a decision to buy or sell.

Index numbers measure change, not level: a region with a higher index than another does not have higher prices; its prices have risen more since the base year. So we compare changes, not index values between regions.
What this means for your decision: compare your region’s direction with the country’s before negotiating any price or rent, then ask an accredited valuer about your specific property; this index does not replace that.

Limits: GASTAT publishes the types (residential, commercial, agricultural) for the country, and only the general index by region in the file we hold. The index is built from sale transactions registered in the quarter, so it is affected by what was sold in it.
Dwellings 2025 (1446–1447 AH): how Saudi households live
There were 4,505,816 dwellings occupied by Saudi households in 2025, according to GASTAT’s housing statistics bulletin (published 21 May 2026 (4 Dhu al-Hijjah 1447 AH)). Villas have their highest share in Qassim (50.1%) and apartments in Makkah (66.3%). Large households (6 people or more) have their highest share in Northern Borders (45.5%) and their lowest in Makkah (19.7%). See the tables by region, building material and services(Arabic).
Construction costs
GASTAT’s construction cost index (average 2023 = 100) measures how the cost of building has changed: materials, labour, equipment rental and energy. In August 2026 (Safar – Rabi' al-Awwal 1448 AH) the general index was 104.0, i.e. building cost +2.3% compared with the same month a year earlier. The largest annual rise among the groups: Equipment and machinery rental (+4.5%). National only, with no regional detail; it excludes land, design and licence fees, and it is not a cost per square metre. Bulletin for August 2026 (Safar – Rabi' al-Awwal 1448 AH), published 21 September 2026 (10 Rabi' al-Akhir 1448 AH); see the full table(Arabic).
Building permits by region, 2019 (1440–1441 AH) Stopped at source
Municipalities issued 103,485 building permits in Saudi Arabia in 2019, the last year published. The series has stopped at its source since 2019, so it does not show building activity today; we show it for the record only.
