General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT)
Our largest and widest source: ten categories of official data for Saudi Arabia and its 13 administrative regions. For each category: what we take, the latest release at GASTAT, the latest data we hold, and our status: cleaned (standardised and ready to show), raw (pulled and archived, awaiting cleaning), or not yet pulled.
What we take and how
- GASTAT statistical database (database.stats.gov.sa): 2,244 reports on 560 indexes. Our collector checks the fingerprint of every archived index daily and pulls only what changed (a new period or a revision). Archived now: 342 indexes.
- GASTAT published releases (stats.gov.sa): 107 release categories, where we track the latest file, and pull the Excel and PDF files for the categories we show.
- Every pull is kept raw as downloaded, with its date and fingerprint, and is never deleted. Cleaning standardises the columns (date, region, item, measure, value) and does not change the figures.
- Apart from population, the finest geographic level of GASTAT data is the administrative region (13). Any “by city” view takes the city’s regional figure and says so.
How to read index numbers
Index numbers measure change, not level. A region’s consumer price index compares its prices today with its own prices in the base year (2023 = 100). It does not say a region is “more expensive” than another, only that its prices “rose more”. The same applies to real estate, wholesale, producer and construction cost indexes and the trade indicators.
- Comparing two regions by index compares how fast prices changed, not price levels.
- Surveys (household income and spending, the census) cover a single year, and we write the year next to each figure.
- Activities in business data follow ISIC and do not fully match SAMA’s merchant classification.
Prices
GASTAT publishes the consumer price index monthly for Saudi Arabia and 13 administrative regions (base year 2023 = 100), together with average prices of goods and services, producer prices, wholesale prices and the construction cost index. Consumer prices by city are no longer published after January 2025 (Rajab – Sha'ban 1446 AH), so each city takes its region’s figure, and we say so wherever it is shown.

Population
Annual population estimates by sex and nationality for the 13 regions, and for Saudi Arabia by age; and Census 2022 results down to governorate and city. The census has its own methodology page.

Real estate and housing
The quarterly real estate price index (residential, commercial and agricultural, 11 types) for the regions and Saudi Arabia, and the housing bulletin (dwelling type, building material and services). We use it as an indicator of change only, and give no property valuation.

Education, health and society
Education and training and adult skills; health care, health establishments and workforce and health status; disability; culture and entertainment; the safety indicator; and household access to information and communication technology. Regional education and health data in the database are older (2017–2018 surveys), so they suit a descriptive reading labelled with their year.

Updates: at source and on our side
- “Latest release at source” = the date of the latest file GASTAT uploaded in the release category, as our collector saw it (last check 4 October 2026 (23 Rabi' al-Akhir 1448 AH)), or the latest period in the database index.
- “Latest data we hold” is computed from our files when this page is built: the latest period in the cleaned file, or the date of the latest raw pull.
- Database: daily check of monthly and quarterly indexes, weekly of annual ones. Releases: pulled when published. Broken indexes are re-checked every Friday.
Limits
- Prices by region, not city, since February 2025 (Sha'ban 1446 AH).
- Regional education and health data in the database come from 2017–2018 surveys.
- 167 database indexes are broken at the source; see What we cannot reach.
- GASTAT may revise earlier figures; the new pull is kept next to the old one and becomes the one shown.
Attribution
For GASTAT figures after organising and calculation by us (percentage changes, differences, shares, regrouping): Source: General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT), Saudi Arabia — <dataset name>, the official source of the original data. DataPulse organised the data and made calculations on it. This processing and its results are ours; they are not an official statistic issued by GASTAT and do not imply its endorsement. Reuse terms: GASTAT data use policy. We do not use GASTAT’s logo or marks.
Where figures are shown as GASTAT published them with no calculation by us, the processing sentence is replaced by “figures are shown as published by GASTAT, reorganised for display”. Derived indicators and forecasts built on GASTAT data carry a separate statement.
The attribution wording in Arabic (the Arabic text governs; the English above is a summary)
