Coverage
- School years 1437 AH (2015–2016) to 1445 AH (2023–2024). The Ministry names each school year after its second Gregorian year (1445 AH = “2024”); we write it in Hijri with the Gregorian years.
- The 13 administrative regions and Saudi Arabia. Regional figures are our sums of the education administrations’ figures as the Ministry published them, with no estimation.
Updates: at source and on our side
- The Ministry updates the file roughly once a year. It was last modified at the Ministry on 4 September 2024 (1 Rabi' al-Awwal 1446 AH).
- We download it by hand when a new file appears, keep it as published in our archive, and the cleaner checks every year before writing: government + private = total, the stages add up to the total, boys + girls = total, and 13 regions every year.
Limits
- General education only: kindergarten, primary, intermediate and secondary. Not universities or adult education.
- “Boys” and “girls” here are the school’s gender, not the student’s: all kindergartens are “girls” at the source, and some boys in the early grades attend girls’ schools. So we do not show a count of female students from this column.
- The figures count schools, students and teachers, not learning outcomes or the quality of education.
- Students per teacher is our calculation, not a figure the Ministry publishes.
Reuse terms
- The Ministry’s open data page allows visitors to reuse its data and carry out studies on it, provided the data’s integrity, correctness and accuracy are kept, and the data are subject to the Saudi open data licence.
- We show its figures on free pages as published; regional sums and the one ratio (students per teacher) are labelled as our calculation.
