Macroeconomy: GDP and industrial production
Gross domestic product each quarter as the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) publishes it, real and nominal, by oil, non-oil and government activities, by economic activity and by expenditure; the industrial production index each month; and producer and wholesale prices. Latest GDP quarter: Q2 2026 (Shawwal 1447 – Muharram 1448 AH) (GASTAT bulletin 8 September 2026 (26 Rabi' al-Awwal 1448 AH)) · latest industrial production month: July 2026 (Muharram – Safar 1448 AH).
Real and nominal GDP since Q1 2019
In Q2 2026 (Shawwal 1447 – Muharram 1448 AH) real GDP contracted −4.7% vs. the same quarter a year earlier: non-oil activities +0.8%, oil activities −24.8%, and government activities +0.9%. Seasonally adjusted, real GDP fell −4.8% vs. Q1 2026. Real GDP measures the volume of output at constant prices (2023), so actual growth is read from it; nominal GDP is at each quarter’s prices, so it combines volume and price changes.

Where growth came from: oil, non-oil and government
Annual real GDP growth broken down into the contribution of each group of activities, as GASTAT publishes it. In Q2 2026 oil activities contributed −5.40 points and non-oil activities +0.55 points. The chart of the last 16 quarters(Arabic) shows each quarter.

- Anyone selling to or serving the domestic market: Swings in Saudi GDP mostly come from oil activities (crude output follows agreed production quotas, not domestic demand), so read non-oil growth first: it is closer to demand for goods and services. Total GDP shrinking while non-oil grows describes an economy where oil, not necessarily the domestic market, is falling. This describes the past, not a forecast.

GDP by economic activity in Q2 2026 (Shawwal 1447 – Muharram 1448 AH)
The largest positive contribution to annual growth this quarter came from Finance, insurance and business services (+0.22 points), and the largest negative one from Crude oil and natural gas (−4.75 points). Items marked with an arrow are parts of the item above them.

- An activity owner: Compare your activity’s national growth (such as trade, restaurants and hotels, construction or transport) with the growth of your own sales; the difference says whether you move with your market or against it. The figure is for all of Saudi Arabia and a broad activity, so it does not describe a city or a particular establishment.

GDP by expenditure in Q2 2026 (Shawwal 1447 – Muharram 1448 AH)
The expenditure side: household and government consumption, gross fixed capital formation (buildings, machinery and equipment), the change in inventories, and exports minus imports. Household (private) consumption is 45.8% of nominal GDP and grew +0.8% in real terms.

- A retailer or consumer service provider: Real growth of household consumption is the closest to the demand you face; read it with the weekly card spending (faster to come out, narrower in coverage). Non-government fixed capital formation describes building and equipment purchases by the private sector.

Industrial production index
It measures the volume produced by mines, factories and electricity and water plants each month, out sooner than quarterly GDP (2021 = 100). In July 2026 (Muharram – Safar 1448 AH): the general index −8.1% vs. July 2025 (Muharram – Safar 1447 AH), oil activities −11.4%, and non-oil activities −0.3%.
| Activity | Index | vs. last year % | vs. previous month % | Weight in the general index % |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| General index | 101.5 | −8.1 | +10.4 | 100.0 |
| Oil activities | 92.0 | −11.4 | +16.3 | 75.0 |

| ↳ Chemicals and chemical products | 117.1 | −4.0 | −2.2 | 8.2 |
| ↳ Food products | 115.0 | −2.7 | −4.0 | 3.2 |
- A supplier or contractor serving factories: Read the direction of non-oil production here months before GDP comes out. The index measures quantities, not sales or profits, and oil carries three quarters of its weight.
A description of what the figures say, not advice; the decision is yours.
- In the “oil and non-oil” split GASTAT publishes manufacturing excluding refining (refining is in oil), and in the ISIC split all of manufacturing; so the table has two manufacturing lines.
- GASTAT revises the index for earlier months and does not always recalculate the published rates of change; the rates here are as published.
Producer and wholesale prices
Producer prices: what the domestic producer receives at the factory gate (before transport, taxes and the trader’s margin). In July 2026 (Muharram – Safar 1448 AH) the general index changed +5.3% vs. a year earlier. Wholesale prices: what a retailer pays a wholesaler, for Saudi Arabia and the cities of Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam; latest month August 2026 (Safar – Rabi' al-Awwal 1448 AH) (preliminary, as GASTAT labelled it). Consumer prices themselves are on the Prices page.

- Anyone buying goods or raw materials: Producer and wholesale prices often move before what the consumer pays, so compare their change with the change in your own selling prices to see where your margin narrows. Producer prices are dominated by oil and chemicals (more than half the weight), so the general index does not describe a small business’s inputs; read the line for your activity.
A description of what the figures say, not advice; the decision is yours.
- Producer prices are for Saudi Arabia only and start in January 2023 (Jumada al-Akhirah – Rajab 1444 AH) with base year 2023; wholesale prices use base year 2014 (older weights), and the three are cities, not regions.
- The annual and monthly changes in wholesale prices are our calculation on the published index; producer price changes are as GASTAT published them.
- No GDP by region or city: GASTAT publishes GDP, industrial production and producer prices for all of Saudi Arabia; we do not know or estimate your region’s share.
- The latest figures are preliminary: GASTAT labels 2024, 2025, 2026 figures “preliminary” and revises them in later bulletins; the figure shown is the latest published, and the status column in the file marks it.
- Real GDP is a chained, non-additive series: at 2023 prices, the sum of activities does not exactly equal the total (as GASTAT notes); so we show the published contributions, not a sum of our own.
- No forecast: the page describes what was published up to Q2 2026 and July 2026 (Muharram – Safar 1448 AH); it says nothing about the next quarter, the profits of any activity or establishment, or why oil output fell or rose.
- Not pulled yet: GDP by institutional sector (government, corporations and households), detailed annual accounts, and monthly international trade (its database indices are heavy, over a million rows each, so its place is the Trade page after a scheduled pull).
