Wholesale and retail trade indices as the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) publishes them each quarter for Saudi Arabia: operating revenue, e-commerce sales, vehicle sales and employee compensation (base year 2023 = 100). Data for Q2 2026 (Shawwal 1447 – Muharram 1448 AH) · published 27 August 2026 (14 Rabi' al-Awwal 1448 AH).

Index numbers measure change, not level: an e-commerce index of 146 does not mean e-commerce is larger than all revenue; it means it grew more since 2023. So we compare changes, not index values between series.
- A retail entrepreneur: If e-commerce sales (+9.8%) grow faster than total revenue (+3.2%), the online channel is taking a larger share of the market; this describes the whole sector, not your business.
- A supplier: The direction of wholesale revenue describes demand from wholesalers in general, and the direction of retail describes what reaches the consumer.
- A commercial property developer: Growth in retail revenue is one indicator of demand for commercial space; it does not measure rent, occupancy or the value of a property.
A description of what the figures say, not advice; the decision is yours.
- No amounts in riyals: the index measures change since 2023, not the size of the market.
- For Saudi Arabia only, not by region or city; and only three broad activities (vehicles, wholesale, retail).
- Figures are nominal, before removing price rises, so part of the growth is inflation. E-commerce sales here are the online sales of wholesale and retail establishments, not all online buying.
We compare this series with card spending: in Verification against independent sources we set GASTAT’s retail revenue growth next to the central bank’s point-of-sale spending growth quarter by quarter, and publish the result as it is.
