The question

How many barrels of crude oil does Saudi Arabia produce a day? How much of it is exported, and how much stays in Saudi Arabia? And how much gas does it produce?

The figure

According to the oil and gas statistics in GASTAT’s database, Saudi Arabia produced an average of 9.48 million barrels of crude oil a day in 2025 (Rajab 1446 – Rajab 1447 AH), or 3.46 billion barrels over the whole year.

In 2010 production was 8.17 million barrels a day; an increase of 16.2% in 15 years.

But production does not move in a straight line: the highest year was 2022, at 10.59 million barrels a day, and the lowest year after 2010 was 2024, at 8.95; it then rose in 2025.

Where does the crude oil go?

Most of it is exported: in 2025 Saudi Arabia exported 6.43 million barrels a day, or 66.9% of all the crude oil used. In 2010 the share of exports was 71.8%.

What grew is the oil going into refineries in Saudi Arabia: 2.75 million barrels a day in 2025, against 1.74 in 2010, an increase of 57.7%. Its share rose to 28.6%, from 21.6%. The total capacity of refineries rose from 2.02 to 3.35 million barrels a day.

Crude oil used directly in Saudi Arabia without refining fell 19.4% between 2010 and 2025, to 0.43 million barrels a day, or 4.4% of the total.

Two thirds of crude oil is exported, and the share refined in Saudi Arabia is rising

And gas?

Natural gas production grew faster than oil: from 6.4 billion cubic feet a day in 2010 to 10.8 in 2025, an increase of 67.9%.

Crude oil reserves as published by GASTAT for 2025: 267.2 billion barrels.

What this means for your decision

This describes what happened from 2010 to 2025; it is not a forecast of future production, and it does not cover prices.

  • For students, researchers and journalists: quote production as a daily average, and compare many years, not one; the difference between the highest year and the lowest year after 2010 was 1.64 million barrels a day.
  • For anyone working in industry, transport or services around refineries: the share of oil refined inside Saudi Arabia rose from 21.6% to 28.6% of all uses.
  • For anyone following energy in Saudi Arabia: gas rose 67.9%, and oil used directly fell; the data do not give the reason.
